creamy cheesy pasta with bacon and broccoli

Creamy, cheesy, and slimming-friendly, this One-Pan Bacon & Broccoli Pasta is the perfect quick midweek meal. Made with simple ingredients, minimal washing up, and packed with flavour — ready in under 25 minutes!

This one-pan cheesy bacon broccoli pasta recipe combines the ultimate comfort flavours of crispy bacon, tender broccoli and melty cheese into a simple one-pan dinner. With minimal washing up and maximum taste, this rich pasta dish is perfect for busy weeknights or cosy dinners with family. Simple ingredients and big flavour make it a go-to recipe for anyone who loves easy, comforting pasta.

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a meal that feels indulgent but still fits perfectly into a balanced, slimming-friendly lifestyle, and this One-Pan Bacon & Broccoli Pasta is exactly that.

It’s rich, creamy, and full of comforting flavours, yet it all comes together in a single pan with minimal fuss and barely any washing up. This is one of those dishes that proves you don’t need loads of fancy ingredients or hours in the kitchen to make something that tastes absolutely amazing.

This recipe has become one of my weeknight go-tos because it’s so simple, filling, and family-friendly. The magic really happens when the pasta cooks right in the pan with the broccoli and just enough boiling water to cover it. There’s no need to drain anything — the pasta absorbs all that starchy water, which helps create the silkiest, creamiest sauce when you add the cheese and seasonings later. It’s a total game changer for quick dinners!

The combination of crispy bacon, creamy cheese, and tender broccoli gives this dish a perfect balance of savoury, smoky, and fresh flavours. Using low-fat cream cheese and reduced-fat cheddar keeps it light while still delivering that rich, cheesy taste we all crave.

I’ve also added a touch of smoked paprika, garlic granules, and mustard powder to give it a subtle warmth and depth of flavour that takes it to the next level.

If you love cheesy one pot pasta dishes, try my Creamy One Pan Sausage & Mustard Pasta or Cheesy Chicken & Broccoli Orzo next for more cosy dinner ideas.

Another reason I love this recipe is that it’s incredibly versatile. You can swap the broccoli for other veg you have in the fridge — peas, spinach, or even some roasted peppers would all work beautifully. It’s also great for meal prep; leftovers reheat really well for lunch the next day (if there are any left!).

And let’s be honest — anything that saves on washing up is a winner in my book. One pan, no draining, and dinner on the table in under 25 minutes? Yes please. This is proper comfort food made simple.

So if you’re after an easy, creamy pasta dish that feels like a hug in a bowl but still keeps things light, this One-Pan Bacon & Broccoli Pasta is definitely one to add to your list. Quick, tasty, and packed with flavour — this is the kind of everyday meal that makes healthy eating feel like a treat.

Pin for later:

Can I make this vegetarian?

Yes! Swap bacon for vegetarian bacon or smoked tofu and use vegetable stock or water to maintain flavour.

Can I add extra vegetables?

Absolutely. Peas, mushrooms, or spinach work well — just add them near the end so they don’t overcook.

What cheese works best?

A mix of cheddar and mozzarella gives great melt and stretch. Parmesan adds extra salty depth if you like.

Is this pasta freezer-friendly?

It’s best eaten fresh, but you can freeze leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Reheat gently with a splash of milk or stock.

How to Make This One Pan Cheesy Bacon & Broccoli Pasta Recipe

A creamy, comforting one-pan dish loaded with tender chicken, colourful veg, and rich cheesy orzo. Perfect for a cosy weeknight meal!

This cheesy chicken & broccoli orzo recipe is the ultimate comfort dinner that cooks all in one pan. Tender chicken, vibrant broccoli, and creamy, gooey cheese come together in a rich sauce that’s perfect for busy weeknights or cosy evenings. With simple ingredients and minimal washing up, this dinner delivers big flavour with even less effort.

There’s something incredibly comforting about a one-pan meal, especially on those busy evenings when you want something delicious but don’t have the time—or energy—for a long list of steps or a pile of washing up. This Cheesy Chicken & Broccoli Orzo is exactly that kind of dish: simple, hearty, and full of flavour, yet still quick enough for a weeknight.

It brings together tender smoked-paprika chicken, a colourful mix of vegetables, and a rich, creamy orzo that absorbs every bit of flavour as it cooks. The result is a bowl of pure comfort food that tastes like it took far more effort than it actually did.

One pan cheesy chicken broccoli orzo in one panchicken and broccoli Orzo recipe

One of the things I love most about this recipe is how adaptable it is. You can pack in whatever vegetables you have in the fridge, swap the cheeses to suit your taste, or adjust the consistency by adding a little more stock or milk to make it as creamy as you like. The finely chopped broccoli melts into the orzo as it cooks, giving you an extra boost of greens without overpowering the dish.

It’s also a great way to sneak in veggies for fussy eaters—everything blends beautifully together.

The combination of parmesan and cheddar gives the orzo that perfect cheesy richness, while the mixed herbs add warmth and depth. Because the orzo cooks directly in the pan with the stock, it becomes incredibly flavourful, almost risotto-like but far quicker to prepare. Paired with the juicy, seasoned chicken, this is a meal that feels complete, filling, and wonderfully satisfying.

Whether you’re cooking for the family, prepping lunches for the week, or simply treating yourself to a cosy homemade dinner, this Cheesy Chicken & Broccoli Orzo is one of those recipes you’ll come back to again and again. It’s fuss-free, flavour-packed, and guaranteed to hit the spot every time.

Can I make this orzo vegetarian?

Yes. Swap the chicken for chickpeas or extra vegetables like mushrooms and peas, and use vegetable stock.

Can I use frozen broccoli?

Absolutely! Add frozen broccoli a few minutes earlier so it cooks through with the orzo.

Can this be made ahead?

Yes. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat on the stove with a splash of water or stock to loosen the sauce.

What type of cheese works best?

Cheddar is great for gooey melt, but gruyère, mozzarella, or a mix of cheeses also work well.
