Exeter's Best Breakfast: Puerto Lounge

Loungers was founded in 2002 by a trio of long standing friends that spent years in the restaurant and bar trade, and decided they wanted to start their own venture. The motivation was simple and very selfish; they wanted somewhere to drink themselves. The first one opened in Bristol, and there are no branches open all over the country.

Their website sums up the interior better than I ever could. 'Think sinking into a battered old club chair under a tremendously tassel-y lampshade, overlooked by a huge Soviet era painting and an old family photo of a smiling swimmer being smeared with lard on a crumbly wall with incredibly loud seventies wallpaper.'

We visited on a hot summers day, and it's perfect location on Exeter's historic quayside coupled with the glorious sunshine meant we felt like we were transported to another country.

We started off with a Latte and an Iced Coffee. The iced coffee was delicious- perfect in the heat. The interior is full of colour, even down the the stripy tables. There were lots of options on the brunch menu, from egg dishes to full English breakfasts, to Avocado on toast.

There was so many delicious sounding options on the Brunch Menu, that I really struggled to make a decision. In the end, I went for the Diner Brunch: Buttermilk pancakes with smoked streaky bacon, maple syrup, barbecue beans, mini hash browns and two fried eggs. It was super filling, but equally as delicious. The mini has browns were a real treat, and full of flavour.

The beans really were next level, with a strong BBQ flavour and rich sauce. Eggs were both cooked beautifully and weren't too runny or solid.

My boyfriend had the Breakfast Muffin: Sausage patty, smoked back bacon and a fried egg on a toasted sourdough muffin. The sausage patty was a good size and tasted delightful. It was a good portion size and was perfect for a weekend starter.

We also had a round of toast and jam to finish off, and the bread was tasty. My only wish there was a little more butter served with it as standard.
