Review: Pizza Express, Exeter

Christmas is coming, and Pizza Express have a special Christmas menu to celebrate! You can get three courses and a glass of fizz from £19.95! We were invited to try out the menu for ourselves, and couldn't wait to give it a go! There is a set menu, but you can also swap anything for an item on the main menu instead.

To start my boyfriend chose chicken liver pâté, caramelised red onion chutney, served with croutons, rocket and fresh basil. It was a generous potion size with plenty of croutons.  The pâté itself was rich and crumbly, a perfect start to a meal.

I went for roasted tomato, roasted red pepper and mascarpone soup, served with croutons, pesto and fresh basil. The soup was delicious, and the pesto worked really well with it.

Our starters came out really quickly, then there was quite a long wait between our plates being collected and the mains coming out.

I went for one of the special Christmas pizzas, pulled beef & horseradish, garlic roasted potato, rosemary and red onion, finished with parsley and Gran Milano cheese. As unusual as this sounds on top of a pizza, it actually worked!  I enjoyed experiencing the different flavour combinations on the pizza, and would definitely have again.

My boyfriend had a classic pepperoni pizza, which was the perfect size to finish in one. The pepperoni was plentiful, and was a traditional pizza lover's dream The base had the perfect amount of crunch and wasn't too flimsy.

We were served by a fabulous waiter named Charlie.  He had actually served me previously at a former restaurant I had reviewed, and he remembered me! He is incredibly friendly and attentive and ensured we were looked after at Pizza Express.

This is a great menu to get into the festive spirit, without breaking the bank before Christmas.
