Review: Harry's Restaurant, Exeter

For 20 years Harry's restaurant and Harry's Grill Bar reigned supreme in Exeter, but towards the end of 2015 Harry's grill bar was no more, and Harry's restaurant was tasked with continuing the popular Harry's name.

The restaurant is situated on Longbrook Street and provides a relaxing and friendly atmosphere to dine in. I couldn't really explain Harry's restaurant as 1 particular culinary style, there is a vast menu with lot's of options from Mexican dishes to burgers and nibbles accompanied by a large selection of wines, cocktails, milk shakes, or even breakfast.

We started off with a couple of refreshing Prosecco based cocktails, with a beautiful backdrop of fairy lights. The restaurant has a lovely, relaxing atmosphere.  There were plenty of people there, even on a Wednesday evening.

We decided to choose one of the sharing starters, Baked Camembert with rosemary, garlic, French bread and apple chilli jelly. The portion size was incredibly generous, and the cheese was baked to perfection. The chilli jam is the perfect accompaniment to the rich cheese and bread, and complements the flavours perfectly.

I decided to choose something different this time. I went for the Pulled Pork Pappardelle, which is pasta ribbons with pulled pork, pink peppercorn sauce and Parmesan. I have never had pork and peppercorn sauce together, but it was a perfect partnership! The peppercorn wasn't too overpowering, and I loved the chunks of fresh parmesan.

My boyfriend had a classic burger with a beef steak patty, crispy bacon and Barber’s mature cheddar, with fries. It usually has salad, but he requested it without. The bacon was super crispy and flavoursome, with a generous helping of cheese.

We had some Artisan garlic bread, which was possibly the nicest garlic bread I have ever tasted! Plenty of rich garlic flavour with lashings of butter.  Not so great for the waist line, but great for the taste buds!!

We finished off our meal with a coffee and vanilla ice cream. The coffee was delicious and the ice cream was so rich an creamy- the perfect end to a delicious meal.

We had a great meal in a lovely atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff.  The food was delicious and served promptly, and the menu offered plenty of variety!
