Tips for a deep kitchen clean

The kitchen is a place where you handle food every day, so keeping it free from bacteria, stains, and unpleasant odors is a must. Deep cleaning your kitchen doesn’t have to be overwhelming, especially if you know what to focus on. With the right approach and a logical order, you can make your kitchen not just sparkling clean, but truly hygienic.

Supplies and preparation

Before getting started, think about what cleaning products you’ll need. Dish soap, a mild degreaser, a soft cloth or sponge, and possibly some vinegar or baking soda will do the trick for most grease and grime. Have tiled walls or delicate flooring? Make sure to use the right product to avoid damage. Microfiber cloths are also great for a streak-free finish. Planning ahead helps too. A quick touch-up is different from a deep clean, so decide how much time you have and what areas need the most attention. Is your oven caked with burnt-on food? Try heating a small bowl of water with lemon juice inside, it’ll produce steam that softens the grime, making it much easier to wipe away later.

Appliances and surfaces

When tackling the whole kitchen, it’s smart to start with the toughest jobs first. Ovens and microwaves often hide the most stubborn grease. Soak trays and racks in warm water with dish soap. Doing this early saves you scrubbing time later. Next, move on to the stovetop. A soft sponge and a drop of dish soap or degreaser are usually enough if you clean regularly. Have a glass cooktop? A special scraper can help remove burnt spots without scratching the surface. After that, give your sink and faucet a good clean. A splash of vinegar will break down limescale, just rinse thoroughly and dry everything with a cloth to prevent watermarks. Kitchen cabinets tend to collect grease around the handles, so wipe them down with a damp cloth in circular motions and then dry to avoid streaks. It makes a surprising difference! Do not only take care of your oven or Espresso machine. Also descale washing machine and other appliances every now and then.

Floors and final touches

Lastly, don’t forget the floor. Start by vacuuming to remove crumbs and dust. Then mop using lukewarm water and a small amount of floor cleaner. Don’t go overboard with soap. It can leave a sticky residue. Let the floor dry completely before walking on it too much. Want to get rid of that “cleaning product” smell? Open a window or door for fresh air. It helps everything dry faster too. Also, consider tossing out any old sponges or cloths. Fresh cleaning tools help prevent the spread of bacteria. Got a few minutes left? Take a quick look in your pantry. Check expiration dates, tidy up the shelves, and reorganize anything out of place. You’ll thank yourself later when cooking feels easier in your freshly cleaned and organized space.
