Our Day At The Exeter Food Festival 2019

May Day Bank Holiday saw the return of Exeter's original food festival. Created by our very own South West celebrity and Michelin starred chef, Michael Caines

Over the past 16 years the Festival has established itself as a vital part of life in Exeter and the South West, celebrating our rich food culture while bringing together local producers, the region’s best chefs and the food loving public.

As an Exeter based blogger, I was lucky enough to be invited along for a special bloggers preview event, and even had breakfast with Michael himself! It was a great way to catch up with some foodie friends, old and new.

The food festival itself was packed with some of the South West's finest producers of food and drinks, with their products available to sample and buy. There were also cooking demonstrations on throughout the day from some top chefs and local foodies.

Located within the Rougemont Gardens in the center of town, the festival is in a great central location. The amount of vendors seemed to be more than ever, and there was also a street food section near the main castle.

We had a good look around and sampled some delicious local food.

We also got a goodie bag from Salcombe Gin!

Exeter Beats

In the evening Exeter Castle became a mini musical festival, thanks to Exeter Beats. There were some top headliners, like Scott Mills and Nick Grimshaw from Radio 1.

I have been a fan of Scott Mills for about 15 years, so was very excited to actually get to see him DJ live! We went on the Saturday night, and had the most amazing time!

Scott was great and played an 80s & 90s themed set, which is my entire childhood! My boyfriend and I danced the night away, in a friendly and happy crowd of people.

I have found the some events similar to this that I have attended have been ruined by the type of people that are in the crowd watching, but this one had a really friendly and chilled atmosphere.

Michael was there in the evening too, having a great time with everyone! He even got on the stage at one point to get everyone up and dancing after Scott's set.

We had a fab day and night out, thank you to Michael and the Exeter Food Festival team for having me!
