Recipe: Simple Sausage Rolls

I have called this "simple" because we are going to cheat, and use ready rolled pastry.  It saves so much time, especially when puff pastry is involved. Instead of using sausage meat, if you pick some really good quality sausages, it saves you from having to add the herbs and flavouring yourself. Just cut the skins and push all of the meat out. I liked to add some red onion for extra flavour.  This means the recipe only has 4 ingredients!

You will need:-

Ready Made Puff Pastry
Good quality herby sausages
1 Red onion, diced finely
Some milk to brush the pastry

Grease your baking tin

Preheat oven to 180 degrees

Cut the skin of the sausages and push the meat out, mix the meat all together in a bowl with the onion

Roll out your pastry to one big sheet

Roll the meat out into  about 3 long sausages and place one at a time along puff pastry, starting at top of the sheet.

Fold the pastry over the sausage, cut to separate from the rest of the sheet, then cut your sausage roll to whatever size you want.

Score the pastry, brush with milk and put in the oven for around 20-25 mins, or until the pastry has risen and is golden.

These are so so delicious, and every time I have made them they haven't lasted very long in the fridge! Let me know if you give these a go!

  2. Easy and delicious recipe. There is no reason to change this recipe as it works really well. May I however, just suggest the addition of a good smear of English mustard on to the pastry before encasing the sausage, as a now and then variation.
