South West Blog Social

On 7th of June I attended my first blogging meet up event, organised Albertine Brandon (@DippyWrites) and Jodie Dewberry (@alajode).

I was nervous as I have never been to an event like this before. I am a newbie blogger still and feel totally out of my depth in the blogging community! I was inspired to start my blog after seeing the success that my friend Hayley had had with her awesome blog, Sparkles and Stretchmarks.  I was really glad that she was going so there would be at least 1 friendly face!

The event was held at Oddfellows in Exeter, a lovely bar and restaurant (I have some reviews coming up with them, and I am so glad after seeing the food that was being served on the day!)  There were talks going on throughout the day. Print Media & Getting Published by Maria McCarthy, The Blogging Community by Jessica Debrah, How to Make Money from your Blog through Advertising and Working with Brands by Emma Coles and What makes you – you? Finding your blogging voice and content creation ideas that are uniquely you by Ruth Douglas

I only managed to catch Jessica and Ruth's talks, both of which were really beneficial.  Jessica shows us just how rewarding it can be to actively socialise within the blogging community, guest post and exchange ideas.  Ruth had a really interactive presentation that really got me thinking about my blogging identity and blogging voice.  She encouraged us to thing of 3 things that our blog is, and 3 things that it definitely isn't, that's for me to know and you to find out!

The cocktails were flowing throughout the day and they were delicious- I couldn't taste the alcohol which is good, but dangerous! There was a makeover station where you could get your hair and make up done, as well as your nails.  I had my hair done, but didn't like it so removed it immediately! After your makeover you could get your photo professionally taken, scary stuff, hopefully he is good with the photoshop!

There was a business card exchange, and I picked up lots of interesting bloggers details. Most exciting of all was the goody bag!  After previous extreme disappointment with the goody bag from the Blog Awards I was interested to see what was on offer from an event that didn't cost a fortune to attend!

I was totally impressed!  Packed with goodies from Yves Rocher including mascara, face cream and exfoliating scrub.  It had lots of money off vouchers, and even included an invitation to collect from Erin Cox Jewellery, a contemporary jewellers based in Castle Street Exeter, to visit her city centre shop and pick up my very own mini floating pearl pendant.

There was also a charity raffle, and I was lucky enough to win a pampering gift set of handmade natural skincare products worth £34.95!

I really enjoyed my first blogger social, and hope to attend, or maybe even host some more soon!
