Review: Giraffe Summer Menu

We first went to Giraffe back in February and we were so impressed with the variety and great quality of the food on offer, as well as their delicious cocktails. You can read my previous review here.

Giraffe say that they want to create a friendly, welcoming place where a smile goes a long way!  They explore foods from all over the globe to give you an extensive menu.  Giraffes are so tall that they have a different view of the world, which is why they named their restaurants after the creature.

There have been a few places that I have recommended to people after having a brilliant meal, and they are disappointed.  It seems as though some restaurants really lack consistency, so I was interested to see if Giraffe could keep up to the high standards that had already been set. We were invited to try out their new summer menu for ourselves.

We started with some drinks, as Nick was driving he had a Wavebreaker mocktail - a long & refreshing blend of pineapple & coconut.  This was so fresh tasting and summery, a real treat.  I had a Pina Colada Deluxe with is made with Bacardi superior rum, Malibu, banana liqueur, fresh banana & pineapple juice.  This is the type of drink that holidays in the sun are made of, a real taste of paradise.  Made with fresh fruit it was delicious and surprisingly filling.

We chose to share a starter together; Nachos Nirvana.  Home fried tortilla chips topped with veggie chilli mix, melting cheese, jalapenos, fiery red roasted chipotle salsa, guacamole & sour cream topped with crispy chorizo.  I have to say, hand on heart, these are the nicest nachos I have ever eaten.   It was all so fresh, the chorizo was smoky and delicious and added a real depth of flavours.  The guacamole was so fresh and delicious- Nick doesn't usually like guacamole, but loved this.  A great start to our meal!

To keep in with the Mexican theme, I chose the Mexican Chicken Burger - grilled chipotle chicken breast, chorizo, melting manchego, guacamole, lettuce, roasted corn & tomato relish with sweet potato fries on the side.  This was absolutely divine, all of the flavours in the burger complemented each other so well.  My only criticism is that it was so full it made it hard to pick up and eat!  The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.  My mouth is watering now thinking back to it!

We also got so beer battered onion rings to share as well. Lovely crispy batter with a tasty smoky BBQ sauce. A great accompaniment with the meal and for us to share.

Nick went for a Thai Duck Stir Fry- roasted shredded duck, bok choy, Thai basil, mint, snap peas, red pepper & noodles with chilli jam & crispy shallots.  The duck was beautifully cooked and so tender.  A really filling and delicious dish. The duck was well distributed throughout the dish, and the flavour was truly delicious; a sweet hoi sin with hints of aniseed from the bok choy and a very mild chilli undertone throughout.

Our waiter was extremely cheerful and super friendly. It certainly seemed that the staff loved working there almost as much as we were enjoying our visit!

The portion sizes don't look that big in the pictures, but they were so filling that were were unable to fit in any dessert!  I have to say that Giraffe totally exceeded my expectations and showed just how well they can maintain their high standards.  We will definitely be coming back here again, Nick wants to sample some of their alcoholic cocktails and more of their menu!
