Superbreak #VDayBloggerComp- My Perfect Valentines Meal

Valentines day is fast approaching!  I don't believe that you should feel obliged to tell someone that you love them on a specific day- you should make that person feel loved all year round! But I do believe that it is the perfect excuse to celebrate your love and do something a little different.  I also think that going out for a meal, while romantic, is ever so slightly cheating.  I might be a bit biased because I love to cook, but I think that gives the evening a much more personal touch, and lots of extra brownie points.   Superbreak offer a range of city breaks, which are a perfect romantic gift, you can read more here

When I found out that Superbreak Mini-Holidays were offering a competition for bloggers to write about their perfect valentines meal, not only did I want to enter to be in with a chance of winning a romantic break for 2 to Paris (cliché but I have always dreamed of going to Paris with someone I love!) but it also got me thinking of what I will actually be cooking for Nick on the night!  Pink (as you can probably tell) is my favourite colour, and I want to give my meal a pink & red theme - the colours of love!

Starter:-
Prawn Cocktail Puffs

This is my twist on the classic prawn cocktail!

200 g prawns cooked and peeled
4 tbsp mayonnaise
4 tbsp crème fraîche
1½ tbsp tomato ketchup
dash tabasco sauce
dash Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp lemon juice
smoked paprika
6 ready made puff bases

Mix the mayonnaise, crème fraîche, ketchup, tabasco, Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice together to create the marie rose sauce.  I used Pidy ready made puff bases, line with lettuce, add the prawns and sauce and sprinkle with paprika!

As a little twist, I will be using Pidy beetroot pasty cups that have a gorgeous deep red colour, to give the extra hint of love! 

Main: 

Steak, Pink Peppercorn Sauce, Roasted Heart Potatoes and Red onion rings

Nick and I both like our steak rare, and both love a peppercorn sauce.  Because it is our valentines meal it will be pink peppercorn sauce.  I came up with some mini  roasted heart-shaped potatoes.

6 large potatoes
Heart shaped cake cutter
Rosemary
Garlic clove
Olive Oil
Salt & Pepper to taste

Peel and chop the potatoes into disks.  Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut your potatoes into hearts, then par boil for about 5 minutes. Heat some olive oil in a roasting tin.  Drain the potatoes, then add the the hot oil.  Sprinkle with the rosemary, salt & pepper and add the garlic cloves.  Roast for 25 mins, basting them half way through. 

Pudding :

White Chocolate Cheesecake with Strawberry Sauce

150g White Chocolate
300g cream cheese, such as Philadelphia
284ml double cream
40g caster sugar
100g digestive biscuits, crushed
50g butter, melted


Mix the digestives and melted butter and place in the bottom of the lined loaf tin. Put in the fridge for the butter to harden. Put the chocolate in a pyrex bowl over a pan of simmering water, without letting the bowl touch the water, and melt the chocolate.  In a large mixing bowl beat together the cream cheese, cream and sugar. Add the melted chocolate and whisk until smooth. Spread over the biscuit base and leave to set in the fridge. Top with strawberries and extra white chocolate and serve.

We will be washing everything down with Strawberry Daiquiris! 4 fresh strawberries, 2 tsp white sugar, 35ml oz white rum, 1 tbsp strawberry liqueur, 25ml lime juice.
