Review: My Visit to Roly's Fudge Pantry

As I walked into the newly opened Exeter Roly's Fudge pantry, the first thing that hit me was the buttery sugary smell of fudge being made. One of the things that makes Roly's Fudge Pantry different is the fact that all of their fudge is made in house, right in front of their customers. When you walk past not only does the smell seem to lure you in, like some kind of cartoon character floating along the scent, but you can see loads of fudge that has just been made sat in the Window.

The Exeter shop is one of Roly's newest stores and has been open for a month. Starting with with one Westcountry store in 1989 (a year after I was born!) Roly's fudge is now being sold as far away as Ireland and the USA!

Their creamy and crumbly fudge is is freshly made daily in all their shops and the fact that people can see it being made is what has helped Roly's build it's reputation as one of the most unusual and popular shops in the high street. As well as being able to buy in one of their 19 stores you can also buy fudge online from their website

I counted over 16 delicious sounding flavours and got some Baileys, Sea Salt, Vanilla and Lemon Meringue to try for myself!

Sea Salt
I have a bit of an obsession for mixing salt and sweet together.  I love salted caramel, and every time we go to the cinema I mix the sweet and salted popcorn together.  This fudge is made with the finest sea salt, and like salted caramel has the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. The salt is in no way overpowering, but adds a savoury accent to an otherwise sweet treat.

Lemon Meringue
This is a citrusy, zesty and tangy fudge that even has a sprinkling of meringue pieces hidden away inside the crumbly fudge. This award winning fudge is perfect if you want to try something a bit different.

Vanilla Clotted Cream
If you are looking for your classic, creamy crumbly Devon fudge then this is the one for you. It just melts in your mouth and leaves a sweet aftertaste that just makes you want more and more!

Now this one is my personal favourite out of the flavours I tried (I ended up buying 200g for myself!) It has the same crumbly and creamy texture as the the vanilla but with the tasty after kick of Baileys Irish Cream. I think I could quite happily only eat this for the rest of my life, absolutely divine!

As Christmas is only just over a month away, now is the time to start thinking about Christmas gifts.

Roly's offer all of their flavours, ranging up to 1Kg in weight, all beautifully gift wrapped.  The perfect gift for that sweet toothed friend of yours!  If you can't decide which flavour to have then there is the option to have an assorted box.  I got one that includes Vanilla, Butterscotch, Chocolate, Rum & Raisin and Maple & Walnut. They also offer a loyalty card (I can see myself burning through one of those pretty quickly!) and a 10% Student discount.

I left the store with my selection to try and an assorted gift bag for my boyfriend, who has the sweetest tooth of anyone I have ever known!  I also have my loyalty card that no doubt will be getting used again very soon.  The Exeter store is now open on Queen Street, as well as stores in Exmouth, Sidmouth. Dawlish, Torquay and many more!

Now excuse me while I continue to gorge on Baileys flavoured crumbly fudge!
